Mělník

Mělník chateau is a dominating feature of the city of the same name.

Originally there was a fortress above the junction of Vltava and Labe rivers. Later the settlement was given a statute of a town and later Mělník became the dowry town of Czech queens. In the 16th century a Renaissance reconstruction took place and the north wing with the tower were also built. Today’s appearance was given to Mělník chateau during the Baroque reconstruction in the 17th century. In the second half of the 18th century the manor's interior was refashioned by the Lobkowicz Family to whom the building belongs at present. In the interiors you can admire art collections of Mělník branch of Lobkowicz Family. There are Baroque paintings from Brandl, Kupecký, Škréta, Molitor or Reiner. Don’t forget to visit the wine cellars and the view point. The north wing and tower are designed with Sgraffito plaster, which is one of the oldest in Czech.
