Spa

Luhačovice

Luhačovice

Luhacovice spa is the largest spa town in Moravia. It lies 20 km south-east from Zlin in the Stavnice brook valley.

Earl Vincent Serényi, the owner of the property, built the thermal springs cabin bath and a pub in 1789. Vincent colonnade and other buildings were built in the mid 19th century.  The fame of the springs, named after the male members of the Serenyi family, grew rapidly, however, the last members of the family lost interest in the spa operation. A big change came in 1902, when a joint-stock company was established in order to buy the spa from the Serenyi family. Architect Dusan Jurkovice built many buildings in the Art-Neavou, Modernism and traditional Moravian styles.

The Luhačovice sulphur spring and other mineral waters are used for treatments of the respiratory diseases, locomotive apparatus and metabolism disorders.  In summer there are various options for spending your free time – walking, cycling or swimming in the dam. Moreover, the International children folklore festival and the Janacek and Luhacovice festivals are held here every year.
